How We Work

About Our Consulting Practice

The 501Secure program is built on the understanding that every nonprofit has unique security needs and resources. Our approach to cybersecurity planning focuses on flexibility, partnership, and equipping your organization to build a sustainable and resilient security culture.

Vendor-Neutral Guidance

Supporting your efforts to secure infrastructure and mission is our priority not selling specific products. We are 100% vendor-neutral, meaning our recommendations are always tailored to your specific situation and budget, free from any influence by product affiliations. We'll help you navigate the complex landscape of cybersecurity solutions to find what truly works best for you. Our goal is to provide advice that you can trust and use right away.

Meeting You Where You Are

No matter where your organization is on its cybersecurity journey, we're ready to meet you there. Whether you're just starting to think about security or need to mature an existing program, we'll begin by understanding your current challenges, existing infrastructure, and long-term goals. We'll use our first meeting to understand your needs and follow this with a tailored proposal outlining our recommended approach and services.

Building Long-Term Security Programs

We believe in sustainable security. Our focus isn't on one-off fixes but on helping you develop and implement a comprehensive, long-term cybersecurity program. This often involves a series of collaborative meetings and actionable deliverables, designed to gradually strengthen your defenses and build internal capacity. We work with you to establish processes, policies, and practices that will protect your organization for years to come.

All consulting engagements include free 6 and 12 month follow ups with our clients. We want to check in, see how things are going, answer any questions, and continue supporting your internal security efforts. We'll reach out with an offer to schedule a time to meet. Client participation in follow ups is optional but organizations that take advantage of our free check-ins find them helpful with staying on track.

Cost-Effective Strategies

We're committed to making effective cybersecurity accessible to all nonprofits. We strive to identify and provide the most cost-effective strategies to improve your online security, leveraging open-source tools, when appropriate, using your existing resources to greater benefit, and planning to maximize your impact without breaking your budget.

Cultivating a Culture of Collective Security

Online security is a shared responsibility with leadership, team members, and vendors. We work with your team to foster a culture of collective security, encouraging active participation and awareness across all levels of your organization. By engaging your team in cybersecurity activities, they develop an understanding of their role in protecting your nonprofit's vital assets, ensuring security tasks are completed thoroughly and in a timely manner. We offer guidance related to vendor and software selection. We provide guidance and support as you build a stronger, more secure future for your mission.
