Why we jump out of bed each morning to help nonprofits strengthen their cybersecurity

When it comes to cybersecurity, nonprofits are all in this together. It's not just about protecting your own house; it's a whole sector endeavor. Think about it: we're all interconnected, whether through shared donors, community partners, or even just who we email. One nonprofit's security weakness can quickly become another's. We're truly protected when we all work to protect ourselves and each other.

For instance, imagine a scenario in which a scammer compromises the email account of a staff member at a nonprofit your organization partners with. Using that legitimate, trusted email account, they send your accounts payable team an email that looks perfectly normal, perhaps asking for payment for an "urgent" invoice with new bank details. If your team isn't vigilant or doesn't have strong verification processes in place, like calling to confirm changes to payment instructions, they might unknowingly pay that false invoice. This sends your precious, mission-critical funds directly into a criminal's hands, all because a trusted partner's email system was breached. That's why building a strong collective defense is so vital.

If you've looked for cybersecurity resources, you've no doubt noticed that there's a lot of for-profit companies (and national nonprofits) are out there striving for large scale impact, trying to hit big numbers, selling (or advocating for) cybersecurity emphasizing one-size-fits-all solutions that scale. And, yes, we need them out there doing what they're doing. We need the tools they provide and the information they share to move the needle on security for our sector.

But honestly? It's also true that your nonprofit's security isn't a generic technical issue. We know this because we're a nonprofit too. We know that it's deeply personal, unique to what you do and how you do it. We wanted to build a program that wasn't about chasing big "impact metrics". 501Secure is about making a deep, lasting difference for one nonprofit at a time. We build real, long-term relationships, spend 1:1 time with your team members, and measure our success by how well you're protected down the road, not just a quick fix and we're gone.

We know cybersecurity can feel like a headache, and honestly, a lot of what's out there doesn't really fit what nonprofits need. 501Secure's offerings strive to cut through the noise. We get that your security isn't just another box to check off – it's crucial to your mission. So, instead of throwing generic solutions at you, we dig in. We're here to be your long-term resource, giving you straight-up, vendor neutral, customized assistance that makes sense for your organization. We're not doing drive-by consultations; selling cybersecurity tools and software licenses; or plying you with feel-good solutions. Instead, we're in it with you for the long haul to make sure your security genuinely improves, step by step.

To us there's no question or issue too "dumb" or too small. We're here to help by filling the gap between the tech companies, government resources, national organizations, and the rest of us. We know how important it is to get a reality check about what's going on with your online security. Sometimes you just need an objective opinion without a salesperson trying to sell you a software subscription.

We aim to be here for the long haul, offering a blend of free cybersecurity resources and affordable consulting services. When you need us, we'll be here ready to serve you.
